Seminary Welcomes New Students

Saint Vincent Seminary welcomed 19 new students for the 2012-2013 academic year, including diocesan seminarians, men from religious orders, and lay students who will begin graduate studies. 

DIOCESE OF COVINGTON

Trinity P. Knight of Thibodaux, Louisiana, is the son of Randy A. Knight of Horn Lake, Mississippi, and Taraleen Gaudet of Houma, Louisiana. He is a 1998 graduate of Thibodaux High School, Thibodaux, Louisiana. He earned a bachelor of arts degree in philosophy from Saint Joseph Seminary College, Saint Benedict, Louisiana, in 2003, and studied theology/divinity at Notre Dame Seminary in 2003 and 2004. He did additional graduate work at the Pontifical College Josephinum from 2007-2009.
Joseph C. Shelton of Union, Kentucky, is the son of Kennth J. and Theresa K. Shelton of Union. He is a 2008 graduate of Ryle High School. He earned a bachelor of arts degree in political science from Truman State University, Kirksville, Missouri, in 2012.

DIOCESE OF ERIE

David E. Carter of Parkville, Maryland, is the son of the late Kenneth and Shirley Carter. He is a 1972 graduate of Baltimore Polytechnic Institute. He received a bachelor of science degree in history from Towson State University, Towson, Maryland, in 1976, and studied education at Loyola University, Maryland, from 1987 to 1991. He did additional graduate work at Saint Mary’s Seminary and University from 2001 to 2007.
Joseph B. Janidlo IV of Franklin is the son of Joseph B. and Margaret M. Janidlo of Franklin. He is a 2008 graduate of Venango Catholic High School. He earned a bachelor of arts degree from Gannon University, Erie, in 2012.
He is from the Diocese of Erie.

DIOCESE OF METUCHEN

Edison Esleyder Arias of Annandale, New Jersey is the son of Francisco Javier Arias and Ana Lucia Valencia of Ituango, Colombia. He graduated from Educational Institution Pedro Nel Ospina, Colombia, in 2005, and studied philosophy and theology at Seminario Diocesano Santo Tomas de Aquino in Santa Rosa de Osos, Colombia, from 2006 to 2010. He studied educational information and English as a Second Language at Rutgers University from 2010 to 2011, and studied English as a Second Language and theology at Holy Apostles College and Seminary from 2011 to 2012.
Christopher M. Hoffman of Hackettstown, New Jersey, is a 2002 graduate of Hackettstown High School. He earned a bachelor of science degree in computer science from West Virginia University.
Edwin Tabera Vásquez of Hopelawn, New Jersey, is the son of Carlos Enrique Tabera and Maria Estella Vasquez of Medellin, Colombia. He is a 2004 graduate of Centro de Estudies Para el Aprendizaje Cepac, Cordoba, Colombia. He earned a degree in philosophy from Seminario Diocesano Santo Tomas de Aquino, Santa Rosa, Colombia, in 2010.

DIOCESE OF PATERSON

Lukasz Stanislaw Iwaǹczuk of Clifton, New Jersey is a native of Poland. He is the son of Piotr and Maria Iwaǹczuk of Poland. After high school in Poland he came to the United States, where he studied at Ss. Cyril and Methodius Seminary in Orchard Lake, Michigan, and at Mount Saint Marys Seminary, Emmitsburg.

DIOCESE OF PITTSBURGH

Zachary A. Galiyas of Coraopolis is the son of Mitchell E. and Mary J. Gailyas of Coraopolis. He is a 2003 graduate of Montour High School. He earned a bachelor of arts degree from Franciscan University of Steubenville.
He also studied philosophy at Duquesne University from 2003 to 2004, and theology at Holy Apostles College and Seminary from 2008-2010.
David W. Green of Pittsburgh is the son of Dale and Lois Green of Pittsburgh. He is a 1977 graduate of Saint Elizabeth of Hungary High School. He earned a bachelor of science degree in food service management from Johnson and Wales University, Providence, Rhode Island, in 1985. He received a master of education degree from California University of Pennsylvania in 1995. He has also done graduate work at Saint Vincent Seminary and Duquesne University.

DIOCESE OF STEUBENVILLE

Luke R. Bennette of Steubenville is the son of Donald D. and Terri Lynn Bennette of Steubenville. He is a 2007 graduate of Buckeye Online School for Success. He earned a bachelor of arts degree from Franciscan University of Steubenville in 2011.

DIOCESE OF WHEELING-CHARLESTON

Joseph Keaton of Huntingdon, West Virginia, is the son of Ricky Lee Keaton and Deborah Lynn Smith of Barboursville, West Virginia. He is a 2004 graduate of Huntington High School. He received an associate’s degree in theology from Franciscan University of Steubenville in 2010. He earned an associate degree from Marshall University, Huntington; and has also studied at Marshall Community and Technical College, Huntington; and Our Lady of the Lake University, San Antonio, Texas.

SAINT ANDREW ABBEY

Brother Louis Carey, O.S.B., of Cleveland is the son of Martin Francis Carey and Kathleen Ann Carey of Euclid, Ohio. He is a 1988 graduate of Benedictine High School, Cleveland. He has an associate degree in applied electronic technology (1991) and a bachelor of electronic engineering technology (1993) from ETI Technical College. He studied philosophy at John Carroll University, University Heights, Ohio, graduating in 2012.
Brother Thomas Sanders, O.S.B., of Cleveland, Ohio, is the son of Gary L. and Joanne E. Sanders of Sheffield Lake, Ohio. He is a 1997 graduate of Brookside High School, Sheffield, Ohio. He earned an associate of science degree from Lorain County Community College, Elyria, Ohio, in 1999; a bachelor of science degree in life science and pre-professional health from Otterbein College, Westerville, Ohio, in 2003; and has done additional studies at the Ohio State University, Columbus (2004-2005) and John Carroll University, University Heights, Ohio (2010-present).

SAINT VINCENT ARCHABBEY

Brother Basil William Alexander, O.S.B., of Saint Vincent Archabbey is the son of Bill and Erin Alexander of Houston. He graduated from Saint Thomas High School in 2003. In 2007, he earned a bachelor of arts degree in drama from the University of Dallas. He entered the novitiate of Saint Vincent Archabbey in 2011 and made simple profession of monastic vows in 2012.
Brother Miguel González, O.S.B., from Virginia Beach, is the son of Alma Chryse González. He graduated from Reynoldsburg High School in 2004 and earned a bachelor’s degree in social work from Ohio Dominican University, Columbus, Ohio, in 2008. He entered the novitiate at Saint Vincent in 2011 and made simple profession of monastic vows in 2012
Randolph E. Hopkins, Jr., a native of Fort Worth, Texas, is a postulant at Saint Vincent Archabbey.
Brother Rafael Quesada, O.S.B., lived in Michigan and worked in the IT and web design industry. He is originally from the Philippines and is the son of Hector and Clare Quesada. He is a graduate of the University of the Philippines, earning a bachelor of science degree in industrial engineering in 1998. He entered the novitiate of Saint Vincent Archabbey in 2011 and made simple profession of monastic vows in 2012.
Brother Martinho Zevallos (Chávez) is the son of Luis Ariel Zevallos Perez and Teresa Sara Chávez de Zevallos of Arequipa, Peru. He graduated from Coronel Gregorio Albarracin, Tacna, Peru, in 1989 and received a bachelor’s degree from the University of San Agustin, Arequipa, Peru, in 1995. He also has a doctorate in physics from the University of São Paulo, Brazil, 2003.

MASTER OF ARTS

Michael A. Kirk of Clemson, South Carolina, has entered the master of arts degree program where he will study systematic theology. The son of Rogert and Sandra Kirk of Simpsonville, S.C., he is a 2001 graduate of Southside High School. He earned a bachelor of arts degree from Pontifical College Josephinum, Columbus, Ohio, in 2005, where he majored in philosophy and minored in classical languages, Spanish language and Hispanic studies. He also previously studied at Saint Vincent Seminary.
