Seminary Welcomes 18 New Students
Saint Vincent Seminary welcomed 18 new students for the fall semester, including seminarians from eight dioceses and archdioceses, one religious community, and a lay student in the master of arts program.
DIOCESE OF ALTOONA-JOHNSTOWNVincent Lee Watkins of Warren is the son of Catherine Watkins-Atwood of Warren and the late Lyle James Watkins and stepson of Bruce Atwood. He is a 2000 graduate of Warren Area High School. He received an associate degree in aircraft maintenance technology from the Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics, West Mifflin, in 2002.
ARCHDIOCESE OF ATLANTAJorge Carranza is from Calhoun, Georgia. His parents are Martin and Bertha Carranza of Calhoun. He is a 1998 graduate of Cosmopolitan High School, Chiago. He earned a bachelor of arts degree from Saint Joseph Seminary College, Saint Benedict, Louisiana in 2010.
Feiser Elliot Muñoz is the son of Hernando Muñoz and Julieta Polanco of Carzon, Huila, Colombia. He graduated from Colegio Nacional Simon Bolivar, Garzón, Colombia, in 2003. He studied philosophy at Seminario Major Castrense de Colombia, Bogota, in 2004, and philosophy and theology at Seminario Conciliar of Bogotá from 2005 to 2008.
ARCHDIOCESE OF CAMPINASMarcel Gustavo Alvarenga of Rua Dos, Valinhos, Brazil, is the son of Iris da Silva Alvarenga and Eliana Aparecida Bonito Alvarenga of Valinhos. He graduated from Escola Tecnica de Comercio de Valinhos, Brazil, in 2004, and studied at Pontifícia Universidade Católica de Campinas from 2006 to 2008.
DIOCESE OF COVINGTONAllan Ramon Frederick of Miami Lakes, Florida, is the son of Enieda Robaina of Miami and the late Allan Frederick. He graduated from La Salle High School in South Miami, Florida in 1969. He studied at Miami Dade College, earning a bachelor of arts degree in business and a master of business administration degree from the University of Miami in international business and marketing in 1999.
Vaughn Ross Kelsch of Augusta, Kentucky, is the son of Vaughn and Beverly Kelsch of Augusta, Kentucky. He is a 2006 graduate of Augusta Independent High School, Kentucky. He has studied business at Northern Kentucky University, Highland Heights.
Thomas Frederick Picchioni of Beavercreek, Ohio, is the son of Frederick A. and Sharon C. Picchioni of Beavercreek. He is a 1984 graduate of Carroll High School, Dayton, Ohio. He holds a bachelor of science degree in industrial engineering from the University of Cincinnati, earned in 1999. He has studied pre-engineering at Sinclair Community College, Dayton, and business administration at Indiana Wesleyan University.
James Patrick Schaeper of Fort Wright, Kentucky is the son of Don and Mary Jo Schaeper of Cincinnati. He is a 1989 graduate of Saint Xavier High School, Cincinnati. He earned a bachelor of science degree in chemistry from Xavier University in 1993 and a doctorate in analytical chemistry from the University of Tennessee in 2002.
DIOCESE OF ERIEThomas Nicholas Trocchio of Cooperstown, Pennsylvania is the son of Thomas T. Trocchio and the late Monica Sue Deer. He is a 2002 graduate of Plum Senior High School. He earned a bachelor of arts degree in philosophy and theology from Gannon University, Erie, in 2010.
DIOCESE OF PATERSONChristopher Stephen Barkhausen of Succasunna, New Jersey, is the son of Stephen Girard and Marta Berdel Barkhausen of Succasunna. He is a 2006 graduate of Pope John XXIII High School in Sparta, New Jersey, and earned a bachelor of arts degree in Catholic theology from Seton Hall University’s School of Theology in 2010.
DIOCESE OF PITTSBURGHJoseph James Gregula of Mount Lebanon is the son of Joseph M. Gregula of Washington, Pa., and Suzanna J. Gregula of Mount Lebanon. He is a 1998 graduate of Washington High School. He earned a bachelor of science degree from West Virginia Wesleyan College, Buckhannon, West Virginia, in computer information science and business administration in 2002. He earned a master of business administration degree from Waynesburg University, Waynesburg, in 2007 and a master of arts degree in philosophy in 2010 from Duquesne University, Pittsburgh.
DIOCESE OF SAVANNAHStephen Benningfield is the son of Bill and Martha Benningfield of Louisville, Kentucky. He is a 1989 graduate of Trinity High School, Louisville and earned a BSBA degree from the University of Louisville in 1993.
DIOCESE OF STEUBENVILLEMatthew Gossett is the son of David and Loretta Gossett of Steubenville. He is a 2004 graduate of Catholic Central High School, Steubenville. He earned a bachelor of music education degree from Ashland University, Ashland, Ohio, in 2008. He received a masters degree in music performance from Kent State University in 2010.
SAINT VINCENT ARCHABBEYBrother Romuald (Joseph) Duchene, O.S.B., is the son of Patti Gentz of Minneapolis, and the late William Duchene. He is a 1998 graduate of Saint Anthony Village High School, Minnesota. He earned a bachelor of science degree in history from The Citadel in 2002. He entered the novitiate of Saint Vincent Archabbey in 2009 and made simple profession of monastic vows on July 9, 2010.

He earned a bachelor of science degree in 2009 in management from Saint Vincent College. He entered the novitiate of Saint Vincent Archabbey in 2009 and made simple profession of monastic vows on July 9, 2010.

He is a 2004 graduate of Coral Reef Senior High School, Miami, Forida. He earned a bachelor of science degree in English literature in 2008 from Florida State University. He entered the novitiate of Saint Vincent Archabbey in 2009 and made simple profession of monastic vows on July 9, 2010.

MASTER OF ARTSNicholas R. Pityk of West Leechburg is a 2005 graduate of Saint Joseph High School, Natrona Heights. He earned a bachelor of arts degree in theology and history from Saint Vincent College in 2009. He is studying Sacred Scripture in the master of arts program.
