Saint Vincent Seminary awarded 20 degrees at its May 10 commencement, including an honorary doctorate to Very Rev. Joseph Mele, Ph.D., D.D., rector of Saint Paul Seminary, Pittsburgh and a former faculty member of Saint Vincent Seminary. Four students received dual degrees. In addition to monks and lay persons from the dioceses of Greensburg and Pittsburgh, they are from the Archdiocese of Atlanta, the dioceses of Harrisburg, Charleston, Covington, Erie and Wheeling-Charleston; Conception Abbey in Missouri and the Monastery of Christ in the Desert in New Mexico.  On Wednesday, April 17, and Thursday, April 18, Saint Vincent Archabbey and Seminary will host a two-day presentation on the four major Constitutions of the Second Vatican Council. His Eminence Francis Cardinal Arinze will be the keynote speaker. He will provide an overview of each of the four documents and offer a historical perspective regarding the impact these documents have had on the life of the Church. Cardinal Stanislaw Dziwisz of Krakow, who served as the personal secretary to the late Blessed John Paul II through his 27 years as pope, will offer Mass at Saint Vincent Archabbey Basilica at 11:30 a.m. Friday, April 12. The Most Reverend Jeffery Monforton, bishop of the Diocese of Steubenville, and Richard A. DiClaudio, chief executive officer and managing partner of Blue Tip Energy Management, LLC were recently named to the Saint Vincent Seminary Board of Regents. Saint Vincent Seminary is the fourth oldest Roman Catholic Seminary in the United States. It has its canonical foundation in the papal bull Inter ceteras (1855), issued by Pope Pius IX, but its actual origins go back to the vision of a single Benedictine monk from Bavaria, Boniface Wimmer (1809-1887) who founded Saint Vincent Archabbey, College, and Seminary in 1846. Since then nearly 2500 men have been ordained to the priesthood, and among our distinguished alumni are 30 bishops, archbishops, and cardinals. Read More

Using archival photos and narrative accounts written by those who lived through the day of “fire and ice,” The Saint Vincent Fire traces the story of the fire and the subsequent rebuilding of the campus.
