2006-1 Spring Leaven

This 48-page color issue includes descriptions of five newly published books by faculty: The Passion of the Lamb and The Unchanging Heart of the Priesthood by Father Tom Acklin, O.S.B., The Stories About Naboth the Jezreelite by Father Patrick T. Conauer, O.S.B., So We Do Not Lose Heart by Father Demetrius, O.S.B., and Letter and Spirit by Dr. Scott Hahn. Dr. Scott Hahn delivers the inaugural lecture of the Pope Benedict XVI Chair of Biblical Theology and Liturgical Proclamation. Michael Therrien joins the faculty as the assistant professor of moral theology. Bishop Lawrence Brandt is honored with an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree at the May 6 commencement where sixteen students graduate. H. Alejandro Ayala, Br. Marion Charboneau, O.S.B., James Stuhrenberg, and Br. Maurus M. Mount, O.S.B., are ordained to the diaconate at Saint Vincent Seminary. Brother Peter Rayappan, O.S.B., bids farewell as he prepares to return to India for ordination. Bishop Donald W. Wuerl is honored at the American Jewish Committee Meeting. The Seminary works to expand Hispanic Ministries. Father Jonas Christal, O.S.B., gives an update of his life since graduating, which includes serving five parishes and twenty thousand parishoners in Brazil. 2006-2 Fall Leaven

This 36-page color issue features a tribute to the late long-time Board of Regents member Father Thomas J. Kram who is also honored during the Alumni Day festivities. Father Justin M. Matro, O.S.B., is named the Rector of Saint Vincent Seminary. Board of Regents member Msgr. Paul Lenz works as an apostle for the Indian Missions. H. James Towey is inaugurated as the president of Saint Vincent College. Juan-Pedro Reyna joins the Hispanic Ministries Program. Farther David T. Brzoska, O.S.B., is appointed Vice Rector of the Seminary. A copy of the commencement address by Archbishop Pietro Sambi is printed in this issue along with a short biography. Eighteen students receive their degrees at the May 5 graduation. Michael Zavage shares how the seminarians’ outreach, through newsletters and parish visits, helps promote priestly vocations. Director of Development Paul R. Whiteside, provides information on the Federal Tax laws. Harry Murray completes his Seminary Board of Regents service. The Seminary welcomes nineteen new students.
