2000-1 Winter Leaven

The Leaven's first color issue may take some time to download due to the larger file size. The announcment of the Seminary web page, a forthcoming visit by Francis Cardinal Arinze, and the new pontifical degree program at the Seminary are on the cover, along with a photo of Rector Father Thomas P. Acklin, O.S.B., and Pope John Paul II, taken during Father Thomas' visit to Rome. Bishop Bernard W. Schmitt of Wheeling-Charleston, Msgr. Paul A. Lenz, and Mr. Mark Garcea joined the Seminary Board of Regents. Announcement was made of a new book on Saint Vincent Seminary alumnus the late Bishop Hugh C. Boyle, D.D., by another Seminary graduate, Pittsburgh Auxiliary Bishop John B. McDowell. Mention of a book on the Archabbey Gristmill by Father Omer U. Kline, O.S.B., faculty member emeritus, was also made, along with the appointment of Father Emmanuel Afunugo to the Seminary faculty, and Father Kurt J. Belsole, O.S.B., as Assistant Rector.

2000-2 Spring Leaven

Commencement and the visit of Francis Cardinal Arinze to the campus were front-page announcements. Father William Fay was honored at the annual scholarship dinner, the announcement of the new Seminary Catalogue was made, and the 1999 annual report is included in this issue, as well as alumni news and notes.

2000-3 Summer/Fall Leaven

Mr. John P. Marous, Jr., Chairman of the Seminary Board of Regents, announced a $6.1 million capital campaign for the Seminary. Dr. George Weigel's commencement address is printed in this issue and photos of the visit of Francis Cardinal Arinze to the Seminary are featured. Father Kurt Belsole, O.S.B., was named Interim Seminary Rector during the sabbatical leave of Father Thomas Acklin, O.S.B. A two-page article with photos details the growth of the Seminary's Hispanic Ministries program and Father Thomas J. Kram was honored for a lifetime of service to the Seminary with establishment of a scholarship in his name. New students were welcomed to campus, the new group photo published, and a group photo of the 2000 graduates is included. Dr. Scott Hahn taught at the Seminary during the fall semester, new liturgical artwork was installed, as well as a new organ in the chapel. There are five pages of alumni news and notes.
